  The mission of Upward Bound Senior Villa is to provide affordable rental housing with links to services for low-income senior citizens by providing safe and comfortable facilities, a productive intergenerational community, and the resources essential to lead enriched, empowered and independent lives. Senior Villa provides affordable housing to approximately 90 elderly residents and a network of services to help the residents live independently, with dignity, for as long as possible. Case management includes connections to transportation, food, medical care, and other assistance for the disabled and frail. Senior Villa residents, all of whom are carefully screened for income eligibility, pay one third of their monthly income for their one-bedroom apartments; the rest of their rent is subsidized. Senior Villa is a HUD-202 Prac project and is monitored by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

  VILLA CARIDAD is comprised of 95 one-bedroom units in a distinctive multi-story building. The vibrantly-colored walls are adorned with an array of artwork donated by notable local artists, and skylights provide the warmth and brightness of natural daylight throughout. Senior residents also enjoy a large community room with a pool table and large-screen television, outdoor seating and walking paths. Restricted to low income senior residents (age 62 or older), there are numerous social activities and opportunities for fellowship and community.

  Crocker Amazon Senior Apartments is an affordable rental housing community with a total of thirty-six Section 8 assisted living units. These affordable apartments provide an independent living environment for seniors. Also known as CASA, the complex was co-developed with Bernal Heights Housing Corporation. Construction on Crocker Amazon Senior Apartments was completed in 2005, after an intensive community process. The site is now a jewel of the Crocker Amazon neighborhood. The three-story, Spanish-style building was constructed on the site formerly occupied by a Mel’s Diner (purportedly, the restaurant was visited by Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy in the 1967 film “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?”) Designed by SGPA Architecture & Planning, the design incorporates features of adjacent homes “honoring” the surrounding residents. A trapezoidal site on a major transit corridor in San Francisco, the complex features a community room with attached kitchen, an exercise room and courtyard garden. Primary development funds were provided by US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Section 202 - Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program, the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Federal Home Loan Bank, San Francisco – Affordable Housing Program (AHP)
