Comment from Fortunate on 2018-05-11 17:22:56: I was called to see about a studio apartment at Rutland Plaza Houses in March of 1985 (some of my neighbors at my old residence had quietly moved there without telling us). I saw the apartment. It was OK looking but decided not to take it as the windows overlooked the roof of a supermarket. The windows of the apartment was on the second floor - - with the ledge of the windows hanging low. Anyone could have easily opened or broke a window and burglarized me. Fortunately for me, I got a call from another studio apartment that I was interested in at another development. Well, reading the two comments below I am SO glad that I opted to go for the other apartment. I really dodged a bullet! It is sad to learn that Rutland Road Plaza Houses is no longer under the auspices of the Mitchell-Lama Housing Program. I still reside at the other apartment. I have been there over the course of four (4) decades - - and it is Still under Mitchell-Lama. I really LOVE my place! As for my former neighbors who kept the move to Rutland under wraps (and did not tell their "friends") - - Welp! I do not harbor any ill feelngs.
Comment from Anon on 2022-07-21 18:57:01: The apartments themselves are actually great. Lots of duplexes which is rare for NYC apartments-can get from studio to three bedroom apartments for somewhat affordable price. The problem is a lot of the people that frequent here. Very very ghetto. I'm not even sure if the problematic people even live in this building, or if they know that security here is useless so they come in here to drink, do drugs, and listen to loud music at all hours of the day and night in the hallways, disturbing the tenants. No one throws out their trash properly so it piles up around the incinerator. Flat out I hate it here and can't wait to move out.
