Admiralty Apartments

Location: Port Townsend, WA - 98368 Contact Phone: (360) 385-0553 Details: The Admiralty Apartments is located in beautiful, historic Port Townsend on the waterfront of Port Townsend Bay. Our street location is: 129 Taylor Street and is at the corner of Water and Taylor Streets. The Admiralty Apartments was first built as the Central Hotel in 1874 and operated as a Port Townsend's longest running hotel for almost 100 years. The hotel was a large three-story wood structure with an ornate balcony around two sides. This became a favorite spot for distinguished visitors and politicians to address the citizens as well as a popular stopping place for ship captains and their wives, steamer passengers as well as "important" people traveling in the area. Among the more notable visitors were President Rutherford B. Hayes, then Senator - Benjamin Harrison, Ulysses S. Grant and General William Tecumseh Sherman. On November 11, 1926, during a severe windstorm, a fire started in the kitchen, which destroyed much of the building. The building was torn down and jut two years later rebuilt to the current brick building. An addition to the building was added in 1952 which runs along side Taylor Street to the Union Wharf. It was converted to Section 8 housing in 1972. Admiralty Apartments is section 8 project building with 38 of our 48 apartments subsidized. All units are 1 bedroom units with small kitchens that have a four burner stove and small refrigerator. There are three laundry rooms available, one on each floor. Because this was a former hotel, there are 23 different floor plans in the building. The unit sizes range from 320 sq. ft. to 506 sq. ft. The average size of each these apartments is 400 sq. ft. Many of the units enjoy a view of Port Townsend Bay and all tenants can enjoy our beachside deck and beach from the recreation room of the building. |
