Details: Village on Mercy is a prime example of how Ability Housing transforms areas of blight into community assets. In 2017, the City of Orlando demolished the existing boarded-up and abandoned buildings leaving a clean slate. Village on Mercy comprises 166 affordable housing units, a community center, a playground, a fitness trail and recreation space located along Lake Lawne. Village on Mercy currently serves 350 people, including 172 children and 18 elderly individuals. Fifty percent of the households were previously homeless immediately before coming to live at Village on Mercy, and thirteen percent are living with a disability. Low-income families and individuals have a safe, beautiful, affordable place to call home. All residents have access to on-site supportive services to improve their self-sufficiency and their quality of life.
