Details: The COOKFOX Architects-designed Betances Residence marks Breaking Ground's first Passive House supportive residence. By significantly reducing reliance on municipal energy supplies, the Passive House standard helps push even further toward a goal of zero emissions. Designed for seniors who are exiting homelessness or living on very low incomes, Betances has a number of features that aim to help residents remain physically engaged, including entrances and corridors that promote active design principles, specially designed outdoor/garden spaces, and accommodations for residents with mobility challenges throughout the building. Senior-specific programming and an on-site medical suite are designed to help our tenants remain active physically and mentally, as well as promote social interaction. Onsite social services are provided by our long-time partners at the Center for Urban Community Services. In addition, Betances includes a community facility space that houses programming for Bronx youth. Residents: Low-income seniors, some from nearby NYCHA residences; Formerly homeless seniors with special needs. Special Features: Green Building/Green Roof; Fitness Room; 24-Hour Security; Outdoor/Garden Space; Community/Multi-purpose Room; Medical Suite; Library; Laundry onsite
