The site opened in 1983 and was named in honor of Commisioner Gerald Schaffer. In 1989, Schaffer Heights received National and Regional “Project Design Awards” from National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. The excellent centralized location, just north of Desert Inn off of Pecos McLeod, offers easy access to the Boulevard Mall, grocery stores, drug stores, banks, hospitals, and bus routes. The Winchester Community Center is within walking distance across street. The beautifully landscaped grounds and recreation room provides a private, peaceful and enjoyable setting for families in our community.
