Details: The Swainsboro Presbyterian Apartments were opened in 1984, when the Savannah Presbytery saw the need for older adults in the region to have a quality place to live. After a lot of hard work, the Apartments were opened, and continue today to be a vital part of the outreach ministry to older adults. Through a collaboration with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), SPA provides subsidized rent. The facility is reviewed each year by HUD to insure that they are meeting standards. Not only do they meet standards, they regularly exceed them. In 2014, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia took over their management. Facts about the Swainsboro Presbyterian Apartments: Residents must be 62 years or older. The average age is 77. There are 10 men and 42 women. There is an annual income limit in order to qualify, which is $15,850 for individuals, and $18,100 for couples. On an average, the residents have an income of about $9,000 a year. The average each one spends for medical care out of his or her own pocket is $1,860! The rent is based on the individual’s circumstances, and is adjusted yearly to meet their needs. SPA pays for the electricity, gas, water, sewer, and yard maintenance; residents pay for cable and phones. They have a total of 50 apartments; each one has an electric range, refrigerator, central A/C, carpeting, cable access, smoke detector, and emergency alarm. They have a community center where they offer social and recreational programs; there is also a dining room, beauty shop, and laundry facilities,
