Details: The Jim Cain Home is a development funded by HUD built in 1987 located just east of downtown Louisville (727 E. Chestnut St.). It is a co-ed dormitory style shared living facility that houses nine adults. The criteria for residency is as follows: Each resident must be from 18 to 55 years of age; Be able to transfer from a wheelchair; Feed themselves;Take their own medications; Handle their own finances; Participate in the upkeep of the facility according to their abilities. The cost to the resident is 30% of income after medical deductions plus $150 for a joint food count. The home is more of a transitional living facility where the residents acquire skills that eventually allow them to live more independent lives.
