Comment from Hello on 2018-02-08 04:15:32: My family lived there from about 1941 to 1958. There were workshops in the basement and flowers planted around the fountain,as well as other beds. There were 14 separate entrances. All visitors had to be announced to the tenant via the office. After the end of WW II, the workshops were made into doctors' offices. The rooms were large. the subway entrance was at the corner and Taft H.S. was a block away. 170th street was the shopping area. P.S. 64 was 3 blocks away.
Comment from Elaine on 2022-04-12 12:02:10: I was born and raised in Roosevelt Gardens and lived there from 1957 to 1967. We had a 3 bedroom apartment and I can remember every detail of it. We played out in the court and the moms would line up their chairs at the exit to the Grand Concourse so we could play and not run out into the street. It was a wonderful place to grow up and I was sad to leave it, but my parents said the building was starting to fall apart and the landlord (who the renters took to court numerous times) did nothing. He became notorious for what he let happen to that beautiful building - his name was Weinreb. It was landlords like him that destroyed the Bronx.
