Property Description:
The Wiedemann family helped pioneer Oregon and they settled in Wilsonville, a growing city about 15 miles south of Portland. It was here the family engaged in growing carnations commercially. We have been told that this was the first carnation growing operation in the state. The property’s development bears their name in honor of the rich heritage and enterprise contributions to the community. The Wiedemann family donated the land to their Church, Community of Christ, with the hope that a congregation would eventually locate a worship facility on the property. Years later the local jurisdiction of the church, with the consent of the family, determined to sell the property. A partnership with Accessible Living Inc. (ALI) was created to develop the project. ALI is a non-profit housing organization that advocates for the housing needs of disabled persons. Wiedemann Park provided the opportunity for ALI to secure apartment homes in the project that were dedicated to persons with disabilities. Wiedemann Park is a 58 unit community that targets seniors aged 62 or more earning no more than 60% of the area median income. Residents must be able to self-maintain and to care for themselves. The building was completed in December 1999. It is a three-story structure built slab on grade with upper floors serviced by a centrally located elevator. The first floor offers a gathering room, sitting area, outdoor patio, and management office. A property manager resides on site. Wilsonville is a rapidly growing suburban community and the property is located adjacent to single-family homes. A feature of the property is towering pines at the perimeter and an adjacent pocket park with lighted paths. Residents receive door to door transportation free of charge to shopping and medical appointments by the South Metro Area Rapid Transit system. Residents have a choice of one or two bedroom apartment homes. Each home offers a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, and individual heating and air conditioning.
