Property Description:
Casa Caribe is located at 173 W. Allegheny Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19140. This multifamily development was completed in 1998 and provides 52 units of affordable housing to low-income seniors 62 and over. This development is the second of four sites that comprise the Caribe Development Zone in the St. Hugh Neighborhood. Casa Caribe offers an ideal location and is designed to meet the special needs of elderly residents as they age in the community. This property offers coin operated laundry facilities, a furnished community room, which can accommodate 100 persons, a spacious lobby and intercom access security. The adaptive design of Casa Caribe and our Resident Services Program aims to provide a supportive environment to accommodate the needs of our residents as they age. Our objective is to link our residents to services available in the community and region to enable them to age-in-place for as long as possible to reduce the incidence of premature institutionalization and provide support as they age in their community with dignity. A monthly calendar of activities is developed by the Resident Services Coordinator to keep residents engaged in social activities, connect them to service providers and provide health screenings. This development was made possible with funding from HUD’s Section 202 Program, the William Penn Foundation and the Office of Housing and Community Development of the City of Philadelphia.
