These unfurnished apartments come equipped with a refrigerator and stove, and the heat, hot water, water, sewer and trash are included. Tenants pay basic electric (lights, cooking, air conditioning), phone and cable. The building has an elevator, coin-operated laundry room, and community room. This is a smoke free building. Handicap accessible units. Downtown Bangor with shops and public transportation. The rent the tenant pays is based on income, roughly 30% of their gross income minus permissible medical expenses. This building is part of NCHA’s Moderate Rehabilitation program. That means this building is owned by a private landlord but NCHA through HUD provides Project Based subsidy for tenants living in this building as long as they meet the eligibility requirements. The subsidy stays with the building so should the tenant move out, they will not receive further assistance. |

Location: Bangor, PA - 18013 Contact Phone: (610) 863-1614 Details: In and around 1975, the Reverend Clifford Carr asked members of the Parish of the Holy Family Episcopal Church, composed of St. Mary's Church in Wind Gap, PA and St. Joseph's Church in West Bangor to consider "community outreach" by establishing a facility for senior citizens on a fixed income, under the direction of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Taking seven years to accomplish, with the "seed money" being supplied by the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem (and later a loan) committee's were established consisting of individuals from the Episcopal Church, other local churches, community members and politicians. Episcopal Apartments of the Slate Belt (EASB) is a non-profit, HUD 202-Section 8 facilities. We offer affordable housing to individuals 62 years and older, and handicap individuals in need of an accessible unit to live independently. To qualify for housing at EASB, applicants are subject to income limits, credit, criminal, and credit reports. The pricing on our apartments will vary to each individual, basing the rent on 30% of adjusted income. |
