White Laurel - Affordable Housing Apartments (for Family)
Location: Boone, NC - 28607
Contact Phone: (828) 266-9794
Details: The Regional Housing Authority is sponsor/developer for the White Laurel community in Boone/Watauga County, North Carolina. The development consists of forty-two (42) dwelling units of family and large family affordable housing in duplex style. Four (4) of these dwellings are fully outfitted for handicapped accessibility and use. Each dwelling unit is supplied with quality kitchen appliances and has space and hook ups for tenant supplied washers and dryers. Site amenities include a playground and walking trails. Architectural and land use planning takes advantage of existing indigenous growth on the mountain rising behind the development. With site acquisition and improvements financed separately-the Regional Housing Authority provided twenty (20) lots to the west of the rental development to be made available to first time and low to moderate income homebuyers. The full site consists of 23.635 acres of wooded land directly adjoining the corporate limit of the Town of Boone. Cooperative efforts with the Town resulted in arrangements for mutual benefit for municipal water and sewer improvements to serve this development, as well as, the larger community. While the majority of the site is utilized for the affordable rental housing development, a section of the property up slope and to the west is being reserved for lots for first time homebuyers. This portion of the land is being financed separately from the rental development and will enhance the Regional Housing Authority's self sufficiency initiatives. The property adjoins the Appalachian District Health Department, New River Mental Health and a Caldwell Community College facility. It is located one and one half miles from a major shopping center and the Hardin Park Elementary School.
