Location: Springfield, NJ - 07081 Contact Phone: (973) 218-1387 Details: Freeman Apartments is a residence for people of low and moderate income, 18 years of age or older, with a permanent physical disability. Freeman Apartments is a 14-unit, two-story apartment building with an elevator and community room. All units are fully accessible for individuals with mobility impairments and have numerous accessibility features incorporated into their design, including 36-inch- wide doorways, roll-in showers, grab bars and lower pantries in the kitchen. Kitchens are also equipped with side-by-side refrigerators and range tops with front-mounted controls. Apartments have extra square footage to accommodate wheelchairs. Safety features include a sprinkler system throughout the building and a door in each unit that leads outside to either a patio or balcony. The tenants provide their own independent living plan. A part-time superintendent lives in one of the apartments. Freeman Apartments offers a preference for applicants who require barrier-free accommodations and reside in Union County. Freeman Apartments is conveniently located near Barnes and Noble and other major retailers. In 2002, the New Jersey Planning Officials’ Association recognized Freeman Apartments with its achievement award for Good Design and Enhancing Quality of Life. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development showcased Freeman Apartments as one of five most excellent in the nation in 2003. In July 2021 the Domus Corporation became the co-sponsor of Freeman Apartments, replacing the Kessler Foundation (pending approval by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Affairs). |
