Location: Northbridge, MA - 01534 Contact Phone: (508) 234-9897 Details: Rockdale Commons has 40 apartments in six buildings located in a residential area of the historic town of Northbridge, Mass., about 11 miles from Worcester. In total, there are 26 three-bedroom and 14 one-bedroom apartments. Section 8 project-based assistance is offered. In general, the apartments are roomy. There is a three-story town house building that includes six units. The other five buildings are garden-style and bright. A courtyard with benches allows residents to enjoy the lovely landscaping. Off-street parking is provided, as is a laundry room. Remodeling of kitchen cabinetry, counter tops and flooring is in process, and appliances and other flooring are upgraded as needed. Maintenance staff is available for on-call, 24-hour emergency service. Children can play either at the Rockdale Playground, conveniently located down the street, or a bit further off at Legion Park, which is a popular spot for Little League baseball and other games. The Shining Rock Golf Club might interest bigger folk. The historic homes, bike trails and beautiful scenery will appeal to many. Perhaps more importantly for day-to-day needs, the Whitinsville shopping district has grocery stores, retail shops and banks. With a population of just over 15,000 people, Northbridge has a small-town friendliness. Its beautiful vistas include the Blackstone and Mumford Rivers and the reservoir and recreation are of the West Hill Dam flood control program. Historically, the Black Stone River Valley was the first industrialized region of the United States, which is an interesting fact that led to the creation of the Black Stone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission. Northbridge boasts the former Whitin Machine Works, the largest manufacturer of textile machinery in the U.S. at its peak that lasted for 133 years until 1964. The town was recently named “Bio-Ready,” per the Boston Globe, which means it is on a course to attract biomedical, pharmaceutical or energy-conservation businesses. The MBTA commuter rail with service to Boston is just 9 miles away, in Grafton, or a little further at either the Forge Park T-station in Franklin or the Worcester T-station. Intercity bus service serves the community, and the Interstates 90 (Mass Pike), 146, 395, and 495 are all nearby. |
