Details: In the late 1960's there was a desperate need for low-income housing for families in Marion, IN.3 Recognizing this need, the members of Wilson Lodge #12 felt they could help the community by at least providing housing to black masons. The members spent numerous hours contemplating how they could provide adequate housing to their members during the late 1960's. However, after a chance encounter between Dr. Joe Casey, a member of Wilson Lodge #12 and Don Spencer, a Real Estate Consultant from Cincinnati, the idea quickly grew from just providing housing to black masons to providing low-income housing for all members of the community. Under Spencer's leadership, and on the basis of his political contacts, the idea quickly became a reality.
