Tyee Court - Subsidized, Low-Rent Apartment (for Disabled)
Location: Soldotna, AK - 99669
Contact Phone: (907) 235-4357
Details: The purpose of this project is to provide much needed additional safe, supported housing to reduce homelessness among individuals who experience chronic mental illness and/or a developmental disability. Tyee Court consists of 8 one-bedroom apartments complete with full kitchen and full bath. The residence also features a large community living and dining area as well as commercial kitchen and onsite staff office. 24-7 on site supportive services are provided by Peninsula Community Health Services (PCHS) in order to addresses the underlying factors experienced by mentally ill adults that so often result in housing difficulties. Appropriately designed housing coupled with on-site support services is proven effective at (1) helping beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health Trust advance independent living skills and (2) significantly reducing financial burdens on public systems by reducing cycling from one emergency system to the next--from the streets to correctional facilities to shelters to hospitals to psychiatric institutions and detoxification centers and back to the streets. Tyee Court Supportive Housing is awarded 8 project based vouchers that provide rent subsidy assistance to pay the difference between the amount that can be afforded by a tenant (equal to 30% of their income) and the actual rent charged. The project was developed by and managed by KPHI. It is owned by a single asset ownership organization Tyee Court Housing Inc. (TCHI).
