Comment from John Doe on 2015-03-06 03:50:40: The LeClair's have no business running 'any' type of business what so ever. They are the worst landlords I have ever had, period. Joe has 'no knowledge' of residential repairs, and fixes nothing. I just cannot stress enough 'NOT TO RENT FROM THE LECLAIRS.' I'm not trying to trash anyone, I'm just telling the truth, and hopefully it will help others.
Comment from UVMUndergrad on 2015-03-31 01:22:32: My girlfriend and I rented from Lawrence & Leclair Inc. for a few months before we decided to break the lease. At first, we thought the apartment only needed a bit of cleaning, but as the weeks progressed, we realized we had made a mistake. We first asked for the windows to be repaired as most of them were rotted out, didn't stay up and let through bugs and a cold draft. After repeated requests, we gave up. There was a leak in the ceiling, so Joe came to inspect it and ended up using a drill to put screws where the leak was (which obviously made it worse). The roof did get fixed, but the landlord hired who I believe was probably the cheapest she could find. All I can say is it looks awful and is not going to last much over a year. Over the months we found numerous health and safety violations (including the windows) and addressed some of them with the landlord, but nothing was done to resolve any of them. We finally decided we needed to move out when we had no shower for almost a week because the landlord refused to call a plumber and attempted to fix the issue himself. He repeatedly replaced what should be proper plumbing with a thin hose designed for air (definitely not hot water). This burst every time we turned on the water. After days of not showering I went out and bought the proper pecks plumbing material and fixed the shower myself. Later that day, as I was waiting for some sealant to set, Joe came in, ripped out all of the pipe I laid and proceeded to replace it with an old garden hose he seemingly pulled out of his basement. As you can probably assume, when I saw this, I was furious. I told both him and the owner, Jackie, that this was unacceptable. After this, he replaced the garden hose with once again, the thin vacuum tubing which burst almost immediately after he left. At that point, I demanded they hire a plumber to which Joe's response was, "I don't understand why you guys need to shower so often. I shower once every two weeks." He then proceeded to tell me that it would be another couple days to a week before he could get a plumber and refused to call the one I had already been talking to (who could have done it the next day). After repeatedly demanding he call this plumber, and the plumber himself making calls to Joe, he gave in and hired him. A month later when we moved out, they charged us for a broken sink, claiming that my girlfriend dropped a glass in it, when in actuality I had cut myself unclogging it on glass which had been in there from the previous tenant. The owner of Lawrence & Leclair Inc. hasn't been inside her buildings to inspect them for years. She is incapable of running a business. Her son, Joe, is incapable of up-keeping himself, much less several buildings. If you are thinking of renting from these people, be warned that you are about to make a HUGE mistake. The building we were living in should be condemned as it is not suitable for human living. The owner should be sued, but I neither have the time nor the effort to deal with them anymore. The least I can do is warn anyone thinking of renting from them.
Comment from Renter on 2015-04-03 21:06:26: The Leclairs are awful business owners and awful landlords. Don't make the same mistake I did. Jackie does not have the capability to own and run a business as she hasn't seen the inside of her buildings for MANY years, and Joe truly knows nothing about anything. Whenever he came to 'fix' anything, all he did was to break more things and dirty the carpet, couch, bathmat etc. with his shoes.
